Case Study - Civic Centre Renovation

The Challenge

Auckland City Council engaged Cushman & Wakefield has Head Contractors to refurbish 3 floors of the civic building in Manukau. The floors were to be populated by the entire call centre staff who have previously been located throughout Auckland to centralise and manage these staff as a team and single location. These floors covered approximately 2000m2 of office space spread over levels 2,3 and 4.

The refurbishment works were delivered through a phased, quick turnaround approach so that the building remained fully functional and operational during the construction works. The works comprised mainly of the de-construction of existing services, some floor coverings and partitions to each floor allowing for a more open plan and collaborative new layout. The area was then re-painted, carpeted and re-serviced to requirements with brand new state of the art office furniture with break out areas. The construction works commenced in June 2017 with the projected completion by September 2017.

The Solution

Cushman & Wakefield provided an innovative approach to meet deadlines and the tight timescales required for the project. This included utilising both in house trades and sub-contractors all working together on some difficult design and build elements of the contract. The demolition work was all completed out of hours to minimise disruption.
